A Drop Of The Ocean Studio has been set up with the aim of providing tutoring and workshop space for other potters and an environment where I will be able to work on my range of porcelain domestic ware with decoration inspired by my love of the sea.
We have 3 wheels and a 4.5 Cubic feet electric kiln. Glazes are cone 6 using Michael Bailey’s excellent book.
There is plenty of table space for hand building and glazing. For the beginner the basic skills are taught, pinching, coiling, slab building, press moulding, throwing, glazing etc. More experienced potters can work on their own projects with technical support and new skills taught as required. Our small classes provide peer support and inspiration, invaluable for any pottery student. Other benefits to the student are good tutor/student ratio and working in a studio set-up for the production of commercial ware.
We have research material in the shape of various ceramics books and a good number of Ceramic Review magazines.
We are pleased to announce that we will be exhibiting for the first time at this year's British Craft Trade Fair in April.
